Group activities to introduce the class to each other.

Ball Toss

1st Round: Teacher throws a ball to someone and says their name. The person who has the ball passes it to someone else and says their name. The ball pass continues until the last person sends it back to the teacher.

2nd Round: Teacher tells the class they can do this quicker and must pass the ball in the same order as the 1st Round. Students continue the ball pass until it is passed backed to the teacher.

3rd Round: Teacher tells the class they can do this even faster and adds an additional ball. Now two balls are in play and the same sequence is used.

Reverse the order

Pass in Silence

Snowball

Students write their name on a piece of paper and one or two things about themselves. Students may write their favorite television show and how many people in their family. Once students have completed the paper they crumble the paper into a ball.

When all students are finished, they create a circle. On the count of 3, students throw snowballs into the center. Students will pick up a snowball and read about a fellow classmate.

Next, students sit in a circle and introduce the person on the paper to the class.

Name Wave

Students stand in a circle. Teacher says her name accompanied by a gesture at the same time. The person left to the teacher says her name and copies the motion. This continues until everyone in the circle has repeated the teacher’s name and gesture. Name wave continues until all students’ names have been said.

Two Truths and a Lie

Students write two truths and a lie on a piece of paper. The lie should not be outlandish otherwise it will be easy to spot. However, the truths should be something nobody knows in the class. Students sit in a circle and read the card to the class. Teacher has the students vote on the lie. After the vote is tallied, the student reveals the lie to the class.

Do You Know Me?

Teacher writes the name of all students on an index card or half a piece of paper. Teacher shuffles the name and gives each student a card. Teacher gives the students about 10-15 minutes to mingle around the classroom asking fellow classmates about their student. Students opening line is “Do you know me?” Students write information about their student on the card. After the session, students join together in a circle and introduce their student. The only rule is students are not allowed to divulge personal information that is hurtful.

Logos

Students are given half a piece of blank paper to create a logo for their name. Show examples of logos on the board from famous companies such as McDonald’s, Coca Cola, and others. After the logos are complete, collect them and tape to the board with a number underneath each one. Each person is given a piece of paper and numbers it according to the number of logos on the board. Without talking the class, writes matches the logo with a person in the class.
